In the architecture of digital signal processing (DSP)—particularly in VSTs and AU plugin design—drift is often treated as a byproduct: an artifact to be corrected, quantised, or suppressed in pursuit of ‘cleaner’ sound.


However, this reflects a larger misapprehension: that systemic irregularity is synonymous with error, and that coherence must always be enforced.

When sound systems stretch toward perfect phase alignment, zero latency, and absolute pitch control, loopholes appear: subtle distortions, nonlinear echoes, unintended harmonics. These are not flaws. They are acoustic markers of systemic overreach, indicators that the model has begun rejecting the complexity it cannot predict.
